You just landed a new job. Now it’s time to start the next chapter of your career journey at a new company, with new people. A fresh start is often exciting – but can also be nerve racking. The following tips can help you when starting a new job.

Get to know your new coworkers. Meet the people you’ll be working with and get to know the way the business works. Listen more than you talk and ask questions for clarification. Getting some insight from those who work in the same department as you can help get a feel for the day-to-day operations.

Know your roles and responsibilities. Make sure to communicate with your boss to know what his or her expectations are of you. Often, when starting a new job, things can get overwhelming; communicating with management helps you stay on track, meeting your boss’ expectations.

Get to know the key players. Make it a priority to meet those who are important to your team and the organization’s success. Ask someone who has worked at the company for a longer period of time if they will introduce you to anyone you haven’t met.

Ask for help when you need it. If a particular task has you stumped, don’t hesitate to ask for input or assistance: It’s normal to have questions when starting something new.

Organize Your Station. No matter what your new job is, make sure you have your work station organized so you can do your job properly. Starting something new can often be challenging and overwhelming; being organized can help make the transition more comfortable.

Celebrate Your Success. When you’re new to a job, it’s important to celebrate success and feel good about what you’ve accomplished. Celebrating your accomplishments can help boost your confidence, which is important when you’re in a new role.

Starting a new position can often cause stress. Avoid any additional and unnecessary stress by taking the time to get to know your new coworkers and company culture. As a new hire, your boss most likely isn’t expecting you to become the star player during your first few months with the company. Take things slowly, but don’t forget to celebrate your victories which will help you establish a name for yourself in your new role.
