Job Description Our client is a producer of functional food ingredients that has been successfully designing and manufacturing dry-blend and liquid food products and product systems for a wide range of retail, food-service, and food processing companies. We have been solving technical challenges related to the texture and flavor for almost all types of food products. Our product systems also help drive new product development and process improvements for our customers. Because of the specialty nature of our products, this position requires a scientifically-grounded person who enjoys working with a large number of companies across a wide variety of product lines (meat, poultry, seafood, bakery, sauces, soups, etc.). This opportunity requires an enthusiastic, highly motivated individual with an entrepreneurial outlook to optimize every relationship and sales activity. Position Summary This position is responsible for the execution of sales and marketing activities across an account base to maximize sales volume and profitability. Sales efforts require a focus on growth of base business accounts and on the identification and development of new accounts. Customer contact primarily is focused on R&D personnel, with excellent working relationships also needed with Procurement and Manufacturing. Key Responsibilities • Technical problem / opportunity identification: identify opportunities and/or technical issues faced by the customer which, if solved, would significantly enhance the customer’s business success • Customer visits: travel and meet with key customer contacts at base and new accounts to maintain/grow sales; attend Plant trials; overall travel could be around 40-50% • Lead identification & qualification: use of phone contacts, business information systems, market research, and trade shows to generate leads for potential new accounts • R&D and Customer Service partnerships: develop excellent relationships with key internal departments in order to manage customer expectations in real-time • Strategic planning: work with other sales colleagues, R&D, and company management to develop strategic plans and ongoing sales metrics appropriate for the region and/or accounts, and for the company’s long-term financial strength • Acting as an ambassador for the company; You are the face of the company to the customer • Planning and attending national and regional trade shows Requirements • Bachelors degree in Food Science, Chemistry, or other Scientific discipline • 2 years experience minimum in Food R&D/product development/Applications • Experience in Technical Sales with food ingredients is a plus, but we are willing to train • Must be detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills • Self-motivated, personable, outgoing, enthusiastic, hunter mentality, and a team-player
